Kinecting

The performance is based on the tripod construction for aerial acrobatics, which represents the performer's intimate space, the so-called "teepee" in which she has closed herself for fear of the pressing problems that plague the world, giving her a sense of security. In the "tipi", the performer communicates her world through speech and singing, floor movement and an array of various acrobatic circus skills. Isolated from the world in her "teepee", she has the whole world in her palm at all times with the help of technology, manipulating it through spatial and rotational sensors.

In an atomised society emphasising and exalting the individual over the collective, we are faced with a flood of (mis)information that further separates us from each other. The omnipresent ("smart") technology only atomises us even further. Kinecting questions such elements of atomisation and communicates the apparatuses of control. The titular play on words playfully calls for an active interconnection (“kinetic” + “connecting”).

Kinecting is the third part of the trilogy PrepLetanje (Flying Over/Interweaving), which is designed as an intimate interweaving of the performer’s space with the audience. The common thread of the trilogy is the interaction, interweaving, and connection between space, time, all living beings, and the universe. It also takes inspiration from the works and ideas of the musician and anarchist John Cage. With each subsequent production, the trilogy takes content, expression, sound and movement in a more technologically “demanding” direction. Kinecting thus interweaves the genres of contemporary circus, street theatre and intermedia performance, where the performance is also or primarily narrated through video and sound, which are connected to spatial and rotational sensors attached to the performer and her “teepee”.
